Livermore’s 2024 Ambassadog Boomer Bowers Leaves a Legacy of Community

Beloved Labrador Brought Comfort and Joy to Community Events, Schools, and Special Occasions

Livermore, CA - 10/11/2024

The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) is saddened to announce the passing of Boomer Bowers, the 2024 Livermore Ambassadog. Boomer, a beloved English Labrador retriever, was named the inaugural Ambassadog earlier this year in a joint effort by Valley Humane Society and LARPD to foster a dog-friendly environment in Livermore.

Kelly Bowers, Boomer’s owner, reflected on his ability to connect with people, saying, “We are heartsick with grief over his passing, but we take solace in a life well lived. He touched so many people’s lives and hearts, and he has left behind a wonderful legacy. He was such a good boy, and we cherish every moment of almost ten years we had with him as part of our family."

Born on April 16, 2015, Boomer was an integral part of the Livermore community. He made frequent appearances at local events such as Community Service Day, Little League World Series, Donuts with Santa, and worked with LVJUSD, offering comfort to students, providing stress relief during exams, and supporting those in times of grief.

"Boomer’s unconditional love for everyone he met always came through," Bowers shared, "His boisterous personality, smile, and nonstop tail wagging brought comfort and joy to so many. He loved our community, and he couldn’t wait to put on his Livermore Ambassadog vest and leash to visit, meet, and greet everyone at special events and schools.”

Despite facing mobility challenges in his later years due to osteoarthritis, Boomer continued to participate in LARPD events, always greeting the community with his signature warmth. His legacy as Livermore’s first Ambassadog will live on through the many lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the Bowers family kindly requests that donations be made to Valley Humane Society or the LARPD Foundation in Boomer’s memory.
